This is a condition very close to our hearts. Emily our eldest daughter was recent diagnosed. She is 19 but has struggled since was 10/11yrs old she missed huge parts of her first few years at Secondary School, gradually having to give up the activities she loved, dancing, riding….some days could barely walk the dogs with us. She was dismissed by GP’s, gynaecologists - wrongly diagnosed various times and subjected to treatments and medications to try to stabilise her pain….the pain was excruciating, symptoms affecting every part of her life.
Finally in December 2021 she was had laparoscopy and excision surgery - she’s now recovering well, at Uni and enjoying shaping her life back together.
This condition has taken so much from her, but it has given her a resilience and strength and a motivation for self advocacy that will carry her well throughout her life, She is Brave, She is Strong and She is Unbreakable 💛
Sadly she is not alone, Emily’s story isn’t unique. Throughout this journey, my eyes were opened - this condition affects 1 in 10 women. Average time for diagnosis is 8 years!
Menstrual Health Project is a fantastic Charity who provide practical support for
those suffering with menstrual concerns and conditions to be able to navigate more accurately and comfortably through whatever stage in life.
They have a wonderful toolkit specifically for teens Menstrual Health Toolkit - under 18's this is a fantastic resource and they are aiming to print and donate these to schools so they are accessible to all!
Let’s see what a little bit of Kindness & Co can do to help raise awareness and some much needed funds for the charity.
